The aim of the County Renewables Project was to help rural communities to develop and implement community based renewable energy schemes:
- Devised and agreed by local people and organisations;
- Environmentally sensitive, and which are informed by the character of the countryside in the locality.
Projects resulted in changes of land use that increased the growing of biofuel crops and increased the provision of community woodland while contributing to flood alleviation. Constituent projects raised awareness of the amenity value of renewable energy schemes and encouraged the re-use or recovery of waste materials.
