Annual Progress Report
Humber Community Environmental Support Programme

So far the Humber Community Environmental Support Programme funded by Cabe has achieved all the targets which were agreed when the funding was offered in March 2004. Environmental Assistance has worked with a wide range of community groups and organisations to help establish or continue community initiatives aimed at improving the built environment and community use of buildings.

During the first year of the project Environmental Assistance have built up a working relationship with HCEBE in Hull also funded by Cabe. We have met regularly to discuss possible ways in which we can work together.

The groups that we have worked with and continue to work with provide a wide range of services to the community. These include training provision, furniture recycling, healthy living centres and support services for blind and partially sighted people. People accessing these services have all benefited from improvements to their built environments such as better access, more aesthetic design and sympathetic yet practical restoration of buildings of local importance.

Environmental Assistance have also taken part in and organised a number of events to promote the importance of improvements to the built environment. In June 2004 we exhibited at the Nunsthorpe and Bradley Park open day and provided information on the services that we provide focusing on built environment projects. In December 2004 we organised and hosted a conference looking at the new planning system and how people can get involved to improve their local built environment and ensure good design in new buildings. A senior Cabe staff member supported the event.

We are starting to work with some schools and training organisations in North and North East Lincolnshire to discuss issues around new buildings such as good design, energy efficiency and environmental awareness. We will continue to work closely with HCEBE to ensure our collective skills are optimised.
