Formed in 1995, we support individuals and community groups.
Environmental Assistance is not a campaigning organisation. We provide free, confidential advice and representation on public health and environmental issues. Our work reflects the communities that we serve by actively involving them in their particular problem's resolution.
Environmental Assistance empowers individuals, voluntary and community groups by providing the advice and information needed to resolve real issues of concern. The success of this strategy is seen by the active involvement of communities and their representatives in the fund-raising for and organisation of projects.
The work experience and knowledge gained by Environmental Assistance is used to develop emancipatory training and educational materials. Providing training to the general public will encourage learners to become actively engaged in identifying problems, and working out strategies for transformation for themselves. This approach will also tend to make community groups less dependant on Environmental Assistance in the longer term, where it sees its role as that of an equal partner engaging in dialogue in the spirit of democratic enquiry.
Who benefits from our work? |
|
Environmental Assistance provides educational and advocacy services to individuals and community groups who, in the main, are unable to meet the cost of medical or scientific help. Their mental and physical health has often been harmed by exposure to chemical and other pollutants in air, land, water, food and consumer products. They may also be concerned that environmental quality and public health is being threatened by local developments.
Non governmental organisations, public and private sector organisations benefit from the conferences, seminars, and the publication of project case studies and research carried out by Environmental Assistance.

Environmental Assistance is dedicated to protecting the environment and the rights of people and future generations. With these rights come responsibilities. Environmental Assistance will help people to fulfil their responsibilities in protecting and nurturing the environment.
Environmental Assistance will increase public awareness and understanding of the adverse effects of environmental pollution on human health and the ecosystem and will work with communities to develop self-help strategies for protecting and improving public health and environmental quality.
Environmental Assistance will improve access to environmental training and advisory services for the most disadvantaged in society. Environmental Assistance will improve access to justice, and promote good practice in the delivery of high quality environmental advocacy services to the general public.
We are funded by voluntary donations. A limited number of projects are able to raise sufficient funds to pay project specific staff.
Projects that are developed in response to individual need are funded by donations and grant fundraising activity.
